Activities Week 2019

An Activities Week was organised for the children who did not go to Croft Farm.  We hope the children enjoyed their time with us and we would like to share the activities they took part in during the week.

Birdhouses - the children came up with their own designs for their birdhouses.  The designs were drawn on paper before being transferred onto the real thing using paint.  The birdhouses looked fantastic when they were finished!

Clay Pots - time to get their hands dirty!  The children had great fun making their pots in the style of the Greeks.  They then practiced their designs once again on paper, using a thin paintbrush and black paint ready to put onto their pots when they were dry.

Kite making - the kites were made from kits and the children followed step by step instructions to put them together.  It was great to see the children helping each other for some of the trickier steps.  We went onto the playground to test them out and the children were surprised and delighted to see them fly.

Creepy Clawes - the highlight of the week was definitely when we were visited by some rather unusual animals.  The children were very excited to be able to see and hold some of these animals and learn a little about them.

Our thanks go to Sarah from Creepy Clawes for making the children's day!

Bug Hunt/Scavanger Hunt - for this activity we gave half of the children the use of bug boxes while the other half went on a scavanger hunt and then switched over.  They made good use of the field and garden, turning over rocks and searching in undergrowth to see what they could find and were amazed at how well the boxes magnified their mini beasts, giving them a much more detailed look at them.  The A-Z lists for the scavanger hunt were filled in by most of the children who searched the school for items beginning with each letter of the alphabet.

Other activities during the week included:

  • a trip to the park to fly their kites, play cricket or tennis, followed by an ice cream
  • hand art or colouring
  • making rocky road and rice krispy cakes
  • the choice of two films to watch on the last afternoon
  • learning a new game out on the field with Mrs Beach
  • the children also had use of the ICT Suite and sang songs round a campfire (which was actually an orange plastic bag)

Thank you to all staff who helped make the week fun for all the children.
