Welcome back to Term 5, hope everyone had a lovely Easter break - the sun came just at the right time! This term Year 5 have their school trip to look forward to, we are going to Wildwood, near Herne (22.5.19) - this supports their learning in Science. Also, we have been invited by Highsted to attend a Healthy Eating Roadshow (7.6.19), which emphasises the importance of a nutritional breakfast and balanced diet. We begin the term with Parent's Evening and this is a great opportunity to see how your child can make further progress in the rest of their time in Year 5.
English - We are studying Skellig, by David Almond, this term, look out for some great descriptive writing, when you come in on Newsday Tuesdays.
Maths - We continue to focus on Number, particularly decimals and percentages. This is a great topic that can be supported by real-life situations, e.g. shopping.
Science - Living Things & Their Habitats is our topic and this follows on from their Life-cycle Explanation Texts in English. It covers topics such as, Evolution, Adaptation and the Human life-cycle. One of our favourite lessons involves looking at the contents of a chicken's egg.
PE - The sun is out (hopefully) and so our lessons now all take place on the field, with Striking and Fielding as a focus for Rounders and Cricket and of course, in preparation of our Sports Day next term, Athletics - a great lesson, with something for everyone.
RE - We consider, 'What does it mean to be a Muslim in Britain today?'
