Year 5 Teachers and Teaching Assistants

Year Leader:

Mrs Spalding

I have always wanted to be a teacher, so after my two children, Gemma and George, started school, I began a degree with The Open University and started volunteering at Minterne.  I love working in Year 5 because Buddhism is one of my favourite topics.  Sia is my favourite music artist and I can often be heard singing along the school corridors.  My favourite film is Stand By Me and I love reading dystopian fiction, like The Gender Game or classics like, To Kill a Mockingbird.  Children in my class know that I really value kindness and I believe that building children’s confidence is key to their learning.

Lead Teaching Assistant:

Mrs Mungham

Hello, I am Mrs Mungham, the Teaching Assistant in 5S. I have worked as a Teaching Assistant for 8 years now and have been at Minterne for nearly 2 years.  I love my job and could not think of a better place to work. I live in Sittingbourne with my husband and two children, Beck and Lexie. We enjoy going to the cinema and to the theatre. We also love to ferment cheese  and bake cakes together!

Class Teacher:

Mr Lingden

I have been a teacher at Minterne for 2 years now and have enjoyed it thus far. I became a teacher for many reasons; the challenge and uncertainty it presents day to day; the holidays (love to travel); to have a positive impact on the children and their education, and the idea that I can try to make learning enjoyable and accessible to all in my class. I try to think outside the box, and like to be quite spontaneous in the classroom, to keep children engaged and interested in the topics that we learn.

One of the many things that I like to do in my spare time, is to read. I don’t have a favourite author or book, but do favour satirical and dystopian novels; 1984, Brave New World, Clockwork Orange. I also like anything by Kurt Vonnegut, and Catch- 22 is spectacular. I also enjoy running in the Blean Woods with my 4 lovely dogs, yes four -  Sirius, Loki, Remus & Severus.  It’s a great way to unwind in such a lovely setting.

Teaching Assistant:

Mrs Hewson

I live in Sittingbourne with my three children (Mia, Charlie and Jake), and three dogs (Tyson, Buddy and Lucky). I've been a Teaching Assistant at Minterne for over a year now, and I have to say, it's a wonderful place to work. When I'm not inspiring the future generations of our society, I coach football for children with disabilities and enjoy spending time with my children.

Class Teacher:

Mr Good

Hello! My name is Mr. Good and I am a teacher in Year 5. I have been at Minterne since 2014 and was also a pupil here many years ago! I love working here because new and exciting things happen all the time and it gives me the chance to help children achieve incredible things every day!

Before joining Minterne, I studied English and Creative Writing at Falmouth University in Cornwall, somewhere I love going back to visit during the summer! I like travelling around the world to visit interesting cities and finding out all about new places. I also like spending my free time reading in the park, jumping around at concerts and cooking in my kitchen. My heroes are Ernest Hemingway, Bill Murray and David Byrne.

Teaching Assistant:

Mrs Waghorn

Hello! My name is Mrs Waghorn and I am the TA in 5G. I enjoy working at Minterne because I like working with children and helping them to push themselves to achieve fantastic achievements. I live with my two daughters, Ella and Lillia. We enjoy looking after our guinea pigs, going on holiday to Disney World and baking delicious treats for Mr. Good!
