Reading

Year 3 is a vital year for children to develop and master their reading skills.  We would strongly encourage you to listen to your child read aloud from their reading book at least 5 times a week for a minimum of 10 minutes.  To develop comprehension skills it is important to ask your children questions about the story they have read.

For example:
What does the word ........ tell you about how the character was feeling/moving?
Which words or phrases best describe the setting?
What is happening at this point in the story?
How do you think the story will end?
What do you think the character is thinking/feeling?
What does this word mean?

Don't forget a bedtime story read by an adult is an excellent way to develop Literacy skills.
If you would like to talk to the class teacher about reading please come in.
