How is Reading Assessed?

At Minterne, teachers collect information on your child's growth reading skills throughout the year.  The information is taken from reading in class, Guided Reading sessions, English lessons, interventions and how they are able to use reading skills to access other subjects.  This is supplemented by a Star Reader assessment that is linked to Accelerated Reader.

In each year group, there are key reading skills that children need to acquire to reach the expected standard for their age group at the end of the year - the documents below give specific descriptions of these skills.  Parents will receive three reports per year and two parents evenings to discuss their child's performance, as well as informal meetings with teachers if required.  Parents can also sign up to their child's AR account to receive emails with results each time they quiz on their reading book.
